this place was a home for nearly a centuryA whole teak-wood house in the heart of Takua Pa's old market — passed through many hands and generations, through the golden age of the tin-mining town, and still quietly telling its story today.
Khun Kasem Thanasan (Khao Sukkasem), founder of this family
Khun Kasem Thanasan, born Khao Sukkasem, son of Mr. Ngern Sukkasem, was born on 30 November 1883. He served the government in Takua Pa province from 1902 in the excise and revenue service — as district deputy and provincial revenue inspector — until in 1923 he was granted the noble title 'Khun Kasem Thanasan' and the rank of Rong-Ammat Tri under the Ministry of Finance, before passing away on 24 December 1927.

The Sukkasem family's wooden house
This teak house belonged to the Sukkasem family, carried on from its founder. The front fence still bears the inscription 'Sukkasem 2475' (1932) — marking the house at nearly one hundred years old, in an old market quarter once bustling with trade and the tin-mining boom.
Grandfather Sriprom, and a gift left to the town
The house passed down to the next generation, to Mr. Sriprom — known fondly in the market as 'Grandfather Sriprom' — who donated part of the family land to a school in the Ban Sri neighbourhood, a legacy of generosity that still nurtures the community today.
From an old house to a new intention
In time the house passed to the grandchildren, before the current owner took over its care. The first plan was to preserve the old wooden home in a Chiang-Khan style and open it as a stay for travellers — but life had other plans, and the story gently took another path.
Siwara Cafe — the story continues
The old house was cared for with respect and filled with intention, until it became 'Siwara Cafe' — a place that opens its doors for everyone to sit, sip coffee, and become part of the story of Takua Pa old town… for years to come.
